Lola was inspired to create this design after Hurricane Sandy destroyed much of Coney Island.  It represents the strength and resilience of the Coney Island Community.   The Mermaid represents the Spirit of Coney Island.  She is carrying Coney safely through the storm. Even though the storm is dark and foreboding, the illumination of the lights shines through the darkness.
